Former Tour de France winner and five-time runner up Jan Ullrich retired from cycling amid doping investigations. Ullrich was barred from last year’s tour although he was not charged with any official offense.

FYI: I noticed an error in the AP piece. Ullrich was not runner up five times to Lance Armstrong. Two of his second places came before the Lance era.
