We at WGATU realize that there is a recession going on all across the soccer-playing globe and that lots of people are trying to bail themselves out of tough situations. So, we decided this week to take a look at a few soccer teams that are having trouble — on the pitch, not economically — to see what kind of bail-out techniques they’re using.
First, let’s look at Newcastle, an ailing industrial town with a housing crisis. Its once proud club, Newcastle United, (sponsored, incidentally, by Northern Rock, the subprime mortgage kings), was, as of last week, sitting in relegation zone with only eight games to play.
